Are you serving alcohol? Are there people who will make you uncomfortable or ruin the mood of the event if they make a speech. Will anyone speak at all? Consider having planted people who you have asked to make a short speech ahead of time. This will break the ice for others to speak up particularly if it is someone with a funny story.
