Questions to Ask:
  • Will you make time to review music selections with me prior to the wedding? Is this an additional fee?
  • How long have you been DJing weddings? Not just events, weddings?
  • Do you have experience at my venue?
  • Do you have any formal training or how did you get your start?
  • How much time before the wedding/reception will you need to set up & test equipment?
  • Do you bring back up equipment in case something fails?
  • Does your package include lighting?
  • Do you only provide equipment or will you also emcee the reception?
  • What strategies do you use to get guests on the dance floor?
  • How does your DJ dress?
  • Will the person you are speaking to be the DJ at your wedding?

Our Tips:
Ask prospective DJs for suggestions on music for important dances or parts of the wedding. A good DJ should be able to make some suggestions for your music tastes.

Arrange a meeting with your DJ well in advance of the wedding. Listen to all of the selected music (especially from the list below) and make sure that it is the song, artist, and rendition you had in mind.

Do not leave music selection up to the DJ. One person's trash is another's treasure. Review the entire list of music to be played.

Here is a non-exaustive list of wedding events that may get thier own music:
  • Procession
  • Wedding March
  • Exit Music
  • First Dance
  • Father-Daughter Dance
  • Mother-Son Dance
  • Anniversary Dance
  • Money Dance
  • Cake cutting
